The Everett City Council is the policy-making body for the City of Everett — the county seat and largest city in Snohomish County with a population of 105,000.
Everett has a "strong mayor" form of government, which means the mayor runs the city's day-to-day operations under the City Charter, Washington state law, and policies and ordinances adopted by the seven-member council.
The City Council is a policy-making body, adopting policies, resolutions, ordinances, the City budget and approving bid awards and contracts.
Everett City Council members serve four-year terms. I have been a member of the council since 2005.
City Council meetings
The City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday except for the 4th Wednesday, which is a daytime meeting beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Council meets in the council chambers, on the first floor of Everett's former city hall at 3002 Wetmore Ave.
The historic art deco building, built in 1929, now also houses the city's police department.
At the beginning of each meeting, the council president asks if anyone in the audience wants to address the council on items that are not on the agenda. Public comments are limited to three minutes unless arrangements are made prior to the meeting.
Residents may provide input and direction to the council either directly, at its weekly legislative sessions, through e-mail and telephone, or else through the city's many advisory councils and commissions.
Public comments also are accepted during council consideration of agenda items.
Watch the council remotely
City Council meetings are broadcast live on the Web, and later in the week may be viewed on Everett's government access cable channel.
Archived videos of past meetings also may be watched on line.
Council meetings are videotaped for broadcast on Everett TV, on Channel 21. The videos are broadcast at 7 p..m Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. Saturdays and 6 p.m. Sundays.
EVTV also provides the Mayor’s Monthly Update, Rinkside, Sound Transit board meetings, special features, and information about upcoming city events.
